Mixed Media Morsels 1-3

On Youtube a last month I saw Shannon Green video where she was collageing scraps of paper in a journal. It was part of the Mixed media morsels series that Cat hand has started.  Cat Hand has even started a Facebook group for this(same name: Mixed Media Morsels. Its a closed group).

The 1st one is useing the plastic wrap on wet paint. Something i've done before. But I didn't have any plastic wrap in the house so I improvised with a sandwich baggie that I cut open. The difference using the sandwich baggie and not the plastic wrap, is that the baggie almost got stuck to the page. but it left a cool texture on the page.

The 2nd morsel was gluing tiny scraps of papers on to the page. i used what was on my desk. an ad that was left over from Color me Positive page, piece of tissue paper that had spray on it. piece of paper that was a drop paper and a couple scraps from a map poster. I used Mod Podge to glue the papers down. When they dried I took a black Sharpie and sketch my initial of my name. I outlined it in gold marker. I added some dots with my white gelly roll pen.

the 3rd one was using paint and 70%  alcohol. This was a lot of fun/ the 1st layer I used neon pink and neon blue. then I driped some alcohol with a paint brush. I then did another layer of paint with a water down green paint. and then splatter more alcohol on it. and the last layer I painted water down pink paint to the page and splatter more alcohol on that.

fall/Halloween postcard swap

This past fall I participated in another swap over at the VLVS! Groupies facebook group. The swap was postcards with a fall/Halloween theme. I chose to do a Halloween theme.

I started out taking some photo paper(pacts that you get free when you buy printer ink) I first played with alcohol ink, but wondered how Dylusions spray would react to the photo paper. Its awesome on photo paper! The paper does get tacky while the spray is wet, but once its dry its fine. The color are so bright and vibrant on the paper. After it was dried. I took a spider web that I cut out on my Cameo. and used Spackle through the die cut. I knew the spray would come through., and I was fine with that.

While that was drying I stamped the Skeleton family, the all day sucker on white card stock with black archival ink pad. I colored the sucker with Be Positive Glimmer glam from Tatter Angels. Fussy cut the skeletons out (no one was harmed while doing that) and the sucker. Glued the sucker to the hand of the main guy. Then glued tat to the post card. I then stamped the bats on to the postcard. Finally I printed a couple of signs that are a wingding. Colored them in color pencils in a orange and yellow. glued that on the page. Then added some crackle accents to the signs.

Color me positive and Journal 52 week 3

This week both places basically had the same prompt...song lyrics

Color me positive their quote prompt was "Make today so awesome that yesterday gets jealous." The optional prompt, which is the one i did was use song lyrics on your page.

I did another collage. the lyrics are from the song "perfect" by Pink.

Week 3 of journal 52 the prompt was use your favorite David Bowie song/lyric or the alternative prompt was your favorite song/lyrics.

This was super simple. I had a vanity Fair magazine that had an interview with Taylor Swift. and pictures of her. I used one that was in black and white. cut the picture to size of my journal and glued it in my journal. Used my Apricot Neo Color II's to color her skin. and used the red for the lips and blue for her eyes. The lyrics are from "Out of the Woods"

Peter Pan

Again everything on this page was stuff that was on my desk.I had some left over book text that i had used for a project that was on my desk. I used pool blue craft paint from Craft Smart. Glued that down with Mod Podge. The embossed cardstock was also on my desk and I glued that down. the Peter Pan picture (say that 5 times fast. LOL) was from a kids book that I used for another project. Used a Black Stabilo pencil around the Peter Pan picture and the embossed cardstock. The sentiment was something I found in a magazine.

Color me positive Journal 52 week 2

You get 2 blog posts today. catching up with blog posts for Journal 52 and Color me Positive weeks. Hopefully next week I will have either week 3 and/or 4 up. I'm aiming for posting these every week. Well see how that goes. :P

Week 2 for Color me positive the prompt quote was "she took the leap and built her wings on the way down."  I did a collage. The background is from a Martha Stewart magazine. and the girl jumping is from a Chicago travel magazine. Then wings are from an ad. I took a white gel pen and added dots to the wings. I wrote out the quote on white cardstock scrap with a pink pen. I used my black Stabilo pencil around the girl and the words.

Here is another collage for week 2 for Journal 52. The prompt was "say yes to" Background was an ad the "wings" on the woman is from a jewelry ad. The hart was an earing that was a circle the I cut into a heart. and the love was a word I found.

So thats it for week 2. Onto working on Week 3!

color me positive journal 52 week 1

This year I'm doing 2 year long art journal challenges. Once again I'm doing Journal 52. I wasn't going to do it again this year because I didn't do much of the prompts last year. Effy Wild took it over, so I deiced o do it again.I'm also doing a new challenge called Color me Positive. Is prompts of positive.Every week there is a quote for the prompt and also an alternative prompt. Color me positive prompts come out Thursday night(Well Friday morning in Australasia.). and Journal 52 comes out Friday.

I'm using a small comp book that I got a Michael's a couple years ago in the $1.50 bin. its 5x7 in size. Its so cute. I'm using it for both art journal challenges.I was going to use 2 separate ones but deiced to put both in 1. one side will be for Color me positive and the other Journal 52.To prep the comp book I glued 2 pages together. I only did half the book for now.

So after that long introduction. Here is week 1.

Week 1 for Color me positive was gratitude. with the quote "when you look at life through eyes of gratitude, the world becomes a magical and amazing place." Jennifer Gayle. For the background I used some Tissue paper by Tim Holtz. I then sprayed some Mister Huey's color mists, that I had just gotten that day. The colors used were Canyon and Warm Calico. I did try the spray with a stencil, but you can't really see the stencil. so I just moved the stay around. while that dried I played with my new Julie Nutting doll stamp(well new to me. I had gotten Marisol and her clothes from Joann.com a week before I did the page. colored her with my neo ii's.  I dressed her in scraps I had in by scrap bin. I typed out the quote and printed it on the printer (before the printer deiced it didn't want to print in black ink anymore. I even changed the the cartage.and cleaned the printer.)I used my dymo labler and wrote gratitude. I only have the red tape now, I used up the black one. Both came with the Dymo labler when I got it at a thrift store. Lastly I used my black Stabilo pencil around the words.

Week 1 for Journal 52 was your one word. Now normally this is something I just don't do. I have never picked my one little word in the 6 years I've been art journaling. But this year I thought why not. My word is brave. I want to be brave to promote my patreon and be brave to promote my Zibbit store(I always feel funny with promoting that kind of stuff which is more or less meaning promoting myself.), and lots of other things I need to be brave for. The background is  a print I did on my Geli plate. (Yes, I got one of them. Though I only played with it once so far. I do like it.) I looked on Pintrest for a Miranda from the movie "Brave" picture to color. I thought I had a magazine image of her, but did not find it. Found this one, I tried to get the website where she came from but the site was no longer in use.I used my light skin tone markers from Prima to color her skin (practice practice practice). Then I used Crayola Super tip makers for the rest. I made her have brown hair like me instead of red. and her outfit pink and not green. Because its me and I hate green. LOL Cut her out and glued her on the page with Aleen's tacky. Used stickers (also used glue to help them stay on the page) from Target Dollar Spot I had for a couple of years to spell Brave. I went around the letters with a white gelly roll pen.

So here is week one. stay tune for week 2. :)

A good dream

This page already had stuff on the page. I glued down a piece of Tim Holtz's tissue paper. I sprayed some homemade coffee spray. I let it sit over night to dry. The next day I glued a couple magazine images. Went around them with a black Stabilo pencil. The sticker is from Dream sticker sheet from Cosmo Cricket Tiny text.

playing with layers

This page was just playing with layers. I first stamped the stamp by Prima with black archival ink pad. Then I used painters tape to make circles. Then I played with paints and sprays. I used a stencil that I cut on my Cameo. I took the painters tape off. and went around the circles with a black pen. I then added a sticker from Cosmo Cricket  Tiny Text Art.
