All Hallows Eve

New Challenge over on Viva Las VegaStamps! blog. The inspiration board for the challenge had all kinds of good things to be inspired from drips, spots, Halloween, skeletons, etc.

I did a 5x7 flat board canvas that I picked up a couple years ago at Ross.

I glued sown some dollies with Mod Podg for texture. Then I gesseoed over it. Next I did a layer of craft paint, Lemonade by Americana. I then dripped some water down  craft paint Parakeet by Apple Barrel. 

I then splatter some Tatter Angels Glimmer Glam in Be Positive, then poured some in a pallet, watered i  down a bit and made some drips with that,

 While that was drying I stamped the All day sucker and the Skeleton family on white card stock with Black Archival ink pad. I colored the sucker with the Be Positive Glimmer Glam.  When that dried I cut that out and fussy cut the Skeleton family out. I was so proud of my self that I din't cut anything off the family! LOL I glued the sucker to the adult skelly. Then I used Crackle Accents to glue it to the canvas. 

I stamped on to the canvas the spiked fence with the Archival ink pad and also the flock of bats on the canvas too.  I stamped All Hollows Eve. I cut the words out, I deiced to spray the words with Cut grass Dylusions spray. I didn't like the white cardstock on the canvas.  Glued that on with the Crackle accents(my Glossy accents ran out and I have 2 bottles of the Crackle) Then  I used the Crackle accents on the words themselfs. I have no idea why, but the Crackle Accents seems harder to get out of the bottle then the glossy accents. I had such a cramp in my hand after. lol I remembered why I hardly use the crackle. lol

Anything but a card Challenge 44 Friendship

Its a new month and a new challenge over at Anything But A Card challenge blog. The theme is friendship. After looking through my boxes (yes my craft room isn't unpacked yet) for something else I found a 6x6 canvas that I picked up last year at Goodwill before the move. I took it out thinking I would use it for the challenge.

I started out with taking one of the backings from a napkin, crumpling it up before gluing it down with matte medium. Love all the cool texture. I then gessoed the canvas after the glued dried. Next I originally played with 3 colors of craft paint a patenia, a lemonade, and a light purple. But after all the color was done, I wasn't feeling how it was looking so I gessoed it over again and stuck with the lemonade and the patenia paints. I used a old gift card to scrap the paint on the canvas.

I had a left over piece tape of dry wall tape from a past art journal class. I cut it at different lengths and widths and placed it on the canvas.

I took London Blue Dylusion spray and sprayed with some punchenllia.

I then took the cut grass and fresh lime Dylusions sprays and tried to make some splots. I used an UmWowStudio confetti heats stencil and sprayed Color Shine in Tinsel onto the stencil and them "stamped" the stencil onto the canvas. I didn't get a clean image but liked what I got.  I stamped in black craft paint the line of chevron and the corner bullseye by Viva Las VegaStamps! 

While that was drying, I picked out some wood veneer pieces. the banners are from American Crafts and the arrows are from Studio Callico. I first sprayed them with the Fresh Lime Dylusion spray but I wasn't liking the reults. So after gessoing and more spray then adding white paint I got where I liked it. The Blue ones I just painted. Aftered dried I stamped with the washi background stamps by Viva Las VegaStamps! with black craft paint. 

I glued the pieces down with Helmar 450 Quick dry. I added some drips with Tim Holt's Distress Stains in the Brushed Pewter on the top then sprayed water to help the drips. I decided the wood pieces need something more so I first painted some perelesent Watercolors by Artist Loft in a white. But thought it needed something else so added Some Rock Candy Stickles. Of course I touched them banner and it wasn't dried and it got messed up. so after trying to get it to the same color as the other green pieces I just painted it another green and restamped and re stickled and glued it back on. The quote I found on Pintrest and typed it up and printed it. Glued it on with glue and seal. Then I stamped the 2 women from VLVS! in Black Versafine ink pad. Colored them in Prisma colored pencils, I put foam tape on them and did put Helmar 450 quick dry on the back of the foam tape to make sue it stays on the canvas.

Soul Food Lesson 18

I'm still working my way through the Soul Food lessons. At least the ones I can do. This is lesson 18. Where you recycle a canvas. I thought the lesson was really cool, but I didn't have one of those stretch canvases around. First I went looking at Home Goods and Target to see f they had one that was cheap on clearance. They didn't. Then once day while out and about. I went to Good Will and found a 9x9 canvas for $1.99. I forgot to take a before picture of it. When I came home  went to work on it. Its not completely finished. MY white Signo pen ran out of ink, so I can't do the writing around the circles(not that I have a clue what that will be!)

ABAC Challenge 22: Lets Get Messy!

The new challenge over at Anything but a card is about gettin messy! So get out those Sprays, paints, inks etc and get playing!

My project is a canvas that I picked up at an Estate sale. This is what it looked like before:

I liked the size of it. And I didn't pay $4 for it. It was 1/2 off day when I got it. There were 2 of these. While working on it I thought I should of picked up the other one. lol

I did 2 layers of Gesso of the canvas and the sides. I then picked out some craft paint. Used the bluse as the base. The dimonds you see are from what was wraped around a wine bottle I got earlier this year. I looked at and thought it would be cool to use. I added some drips and splots of black, pink and white craft paints. Then I did something I didn't like and did THE WHOLE THING OVER! The result is the background is what you see now. and let me tell you I got messy!  I work infront of my computer and my poor monitor had spatters of white splots on it.

The Dress form is a die cut that a friend sent me(I now have the die on clearance from Hobby Lobby. LOL) I first put paper on it and then did the drips and splots like the canvas. Then added the three dew drops at the weist. Glued it on the canvas, then that it looked horrible and got out the black craft paint and painted it in two coats. you can still see the drips if you look closely. lol 

I painted the sides of the canvas a couple times. I finally broke out the Wild orchid Crafts flowers that Natasha and Sarah sent me. Hot glued them to the canvas. The sentiment is from Viva Las VegaStamps!. Edged the sides with Salted Ocean. Glued it with Gloss accents.

Finn inpsired canvas...VLVS! style!

I been wanting to do a Finn inspired canvas with VLVS! since I did a little 4x4 with a coaster to get my feet wet. So that's what I did in December. I did it so far in advance because I wanted to give it to my parents to take with them to Las Vegas. They will be there for the whole month of February(So they are bond to go to the VLVS! store for me sometime in the month!).... leaving me in cold snowy Chicago! Sigh!

The canvas is a 5x7 flat board canvas by Artist Loft.I started of stamping on white cardstock Couture by Brian Kesinger in black memento ink and colored her in Prisma color pencils. I then glued her down the canvas.  I glued on white lace from my stash and the white rosette trim by May Arts with gel medium. I then put some molding paste on the canvas and took the Harlequin Diamond background stamp in the molding paste. The I went to the sink and washed the stamp off. After I let the molding paste dried. I then went to town and glued all kinds of things down to the canvas. I dud use molding paste as a glue for the stuff (do you spy a pink Flamingo. lol), because I was very low of gel medium.

When done this is what it looks like before the magic happens.

Now the after!

Before spraying I did put a few post it notes over the stamped image on the canvas to protect it.

I used Dylusion Pink Bubble gum spray, Lindy stamp gang Dark Chocolate Truffle, starbusrt spray, Phantom Fushia moon shadow mist, and Screaming Banchee Black Starburst spray. I then went over some parts with Luminere pearl Magenta paint. Some more spraying. and then i went over some parts with bronze, and silver craft paints. 

When I was done and took off the tape and post it notes that was on the image. ad i did get some of the pink spray on it. I tried to fix it, but it looked awful! So I covered it with the sprays and paints. I re stamped the image and colored her and fussy cut her out. I used foam tape to pop her up on the canvas. 

It needed something so I stamped Dream Big and Make a Wish on white card stock cut the words apart and then painted them with the Dylusion bubblegum pink and then Phantom Fushia with a brush. klet them dry and put them on the canvas with foam tape. Love how it turned out!

Today My project is a canvas. Its 5 x 7 flat board canvas, That I got at Blick's. The first layer is a napkin. Napkins are so fun to play with and come in so many fun designs! I took the plain white layer off revealing the pattern. Most cases napkins come in 2 ply but some times they are 3 ply. So be sure to check before gluing down, otherwise the top layer,the pattern, will not be glued down to what ever you are gluing to. I glued the napkin using matte medium. "or you can use modge podge in matte.

After that dried I took some Alcohol inks in Watermelon, Sail boat Blue, and Citrus and dripped some of each color along the top edge of the canvas. Then I took a little spritz bottle that had some 91% rubbing alcohol in it. Then spritz some of that on the canvas causing the inks to run down and dripped. I moved the canvas around and added some more and did the same thing, til I was happy with what I saw. I learned this technique from one of my online friends, Barb. the I let the canvas dry.

I took a tree mask that was given on a RAK. I Sponged some gesso around the tree. i placed the ask in a couple of places, but I didn't like it. so, i put the mask back to where I first placed it and put gesso around the whole thing. That's what fun about playing with canvas. If you don't like something, or you mess up, you just paint or gesso over it. :) I kept the mask on where it was and did a layer of yellow craft paint. After that dried I used a little bit of yellow StarBright paint with a pallet knife and then wiped it around the canvas. It left a nice glittery effect. Of course its a pain to photograph with the glitter. :/ but it looks great in person! Here it is when the background is all done!

No matter how many times I took pictures of this I could never capture what it looked like in real life. but this shot is the closest I got! You can see the napkin I used in the tree. and some of the alcohol inks I used too.  

Now time to add the focal point to the canvas. I chose the peacock from plate 1398. I stamped him on tissue paper with Black Versafine ink pad. stamping with Versafine shows the fine details in this fab stamp!I glued it to the canvas using matte medium, careful not to tear the tissue. I then stamped on white cardstock the sentiment that is also on the same plate "Don't let anyone ever dull your sparkle." I thought it went great with the all the sparkle from the glitter paint. I cut apart the sentiment and glued the pieces down with Glossy Accents.  

I LOVE how this canvas turned out. I did take a little dab of craft paint and watered it down and with my finger painted over the image so that the white of the tissue didn't stand out so much. I know the pictures can not show the sparkle or the colors too well. I've been taking tons of picture of this piece in both day light and        

well...not night light. lol but more when the sun goes down and all is on is a bedroom light. And playing with the camera settings. Its been driving me insane! I really need to make a light box. :P
