May ARC read

This month I read Buffalo West Wing by Julie Hyzy

This is the 4th book in the White House Chef mystery series.

Olivia or Ollie is the first female white house chef.

There is a new presidential family moving in to the white house. The president and first lady have 2 children, In the hussle and bussel of ingratiation day no one saw the box of Buffalo wings, the kids favorite treat show up in the Kitchen. Not knowing where they came from, Ollie hid them away so the kids wouldn't see them. The kids did find them and wanted them, but were told no. Of course the kids told their mom and mom was not too pleased, so she sent for her personal chef, Virgil, to cook their family meals. Causing Ollie to worry about her job. But it turned out that the wings were poisoned.

I enjoyed reading this book, and the series. I couldn't help to think that the author had the Obama's in mind while writing the book. The new first couple are a young couple, they have 2 kids, but unlike the real first family, the president & his wife in the book have a girl 13 and a boy 9. Also mentioned in the book were the First Lady wanting to have a big garden so their kids can have fresh food(and lower their food bill) and then donating what they didn't eat to schools.  Also at the end of the book there are some recipes for adults, and because there are young kids in the oval office now in the series, there are some kid friendly recipes too. And what is a cozy mystery series without romance. After her long breakup up With Secert service agent Tom in the last book, there is a starting of a new romance starting.  And he sounds a lot nicer than Tom, not that Tom was a totally bad guy. lol

I had no clue what I anted to do for the journal page. I went online and found 2 pictures of the white house. I did a transfer using Claudine Hellmuth Multi Medium in gloss. After they were transferred and dried I took some blue paint and painted the page. Added some punchenllia with white paint and a plastic canvas as a stencil using a mix of Scream banchee black Lindy Stamp gang and black S.E.I. tumble due spray.  The then found a chef's hat dig.i and some chicken wing labels. I glued them on the page.I then took a sharpie and wrote the title of the book.

I love a good mystery and this sounds like it might be a series I would be interested in. Your description and review made me want to head for the kitchen, too.

Journal pages seem to be all the rage. Wonder why I didn't think of that. You did a splendid job, and I am in awe of how you used the Chef's hat to add the date of the ARC.

Your review made me giggle. Not that I was happy the girls were poisoned (I hope they are fine), but the mom's attitude annoyed me. Poor chefs.

Love the plump chef's hat, and the buffalo colors on the sides of the house. Hm... I might have to make some wings today ;-)

Fab page, love the transfer. Gel transfers can be tricky but yours turned out great. love the hat too with our name on it lol

Doing a transfer was a great idea. I've always wanted to try this with some gell medium, but never had the courage. Yours turned out so well that I might give it a try. I think the art work was really vibrant and went well with your review. xx Julie Ann

well this is a different twist on the old political thriller mystery type book :)

I was feeling sorry for the poor kids denied their buffalo wings until you said they were poisoned....

I guess it would be a bit daft to feed the first family food that had just appeared unbidden

cool journal page, I like the chef's hat and the image xfers....
